Restoring The Past  Building The Future

Historic Restoration. Restoring The Past. Building The Future. Historic Restoration. Restoring The Past. Building The Future.

"IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT, AT ITS BEST, PRESERVATION ENGAGES THE PAST IN A CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESENT OVER A MUTUAL CONCERN FOR THE FUTURE." - WILLIAM J. MURTAGH

Older homes represent a simpler lifestyle that is slowly disappearing. As a young apprentice, deconstructing an old house, before the new work started, I was able to see first hand how it was assembled and determine why the builder chose the materials used. To see the quality of work, knowing there were no power tools, was fascinating.

Historic restoration is a process in which an object or structure is restored with an eye to its original character. Southfen is renowned for maintaining historic accuracy with 21st century functionality.

SouthFen craftsmen pride themselves in using construction techniques that were utilized during the period in which the home or structure originated. Salvaged wood, mortise and tenon construction, specially milled trim, finishes, and hardware are used to marry the new with the old.

This type of restoration involves attention to detail, research, and work by hand.
